Our Deacons

We currently have five deacons. In alphabetical order they are;

Ian Barber
Ian is Church Secretary and is therefore involved with many aspects of church life. He writes;
'This past year God has opened doors for me as work commitments have reduced. It has been both an honour and a privilege to serve the church as a deacon.’

David Jarratt
David is Church Music Coordinator and regularly plays keyboard as required. He is also a worship leader and frequently leads worship when others are preaching. He has been in church leadership for many years in one way or another, and has regularly been on the prayer ministry team at ‘Leading Edge’. His desire is that all the church does should bring people into a closer walk with Jesus.

Phil Ottaway
Phil is primarily Church Treasurer although he has other roles such as operating the digital projector each Sunday morning and all the preparation that this entails.
He is married to Sally and they have two grown up children, Simon & Lucy. He became a member of Upton Baptist Church in 1999, was elected as a Deacon in 2008 and appointed as Treasurer in 2009. Phil & Sally run the coffee morning held at the church on a Friday.

Betty Williams
Betty lives next door to the church and is Church Caretaker. She also takes a leading role in the day to day smooth running of the church. As she also publishes the local free newspaper, she is a key link between the church and the local community.

Sylvia Youngs
Sylvia has been Catering Coordinator for many years. For several years she has organised regular soup lunches during the winter months and as a skilful cook she is always involved in any church function that involves food – and almost all do.
